How often do I actually need a check-up?
Between six months and two years, depending on your gum health, decay history and habits. Your dentist sets an interval at the end of each examination and explains the reasoning, rather than defaulting everyone to six months.
Can I register if I have not seen a dentist in years?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Book a new-patient appointment and say in the notes how long it has been. Nobody will comment on the gap, and the first visit is an assessment rather than treatment.
What happens if I am genuinely frightened of the chair?
Tell us on the form. We can book a talk-only first appointment where you stay upright and nothing goes near your mouth, agree a stop signal for later visits, and take treatment in shorter stages with longer slots.
Do you see children?
We see children from around three years old, usually alongside a parent who is already a patient. Early visits are short, friendly and often nothing more than counting teeth and a ride in the chair.
How long do clear aligners take?
Mild crowding is often a matter of months; more complex movement takes longer. You will see a projected outcome and a planned number of aligners before you decide, and a retainer afterwards is part of the plan, not an extra.
Will whitening damage my enamel or my existing fillings?
Used correctly with custom trays, whitening does not damage enamel, though some people get temporary sensitivity that settles within a few days. Crowns, veneers and white fillings do not change shade, so anything visible may need replacing afterwards to match.
What if I am running late or need to cancel?
Let reception know as early as you can. We can usually still see you for a shortened appointment if you are running late, and giving us notice of a cancellation means the slot can go to someone waiting in pain.
