A small practice, six chairs, no rush

Dentistry that explains itself before it treats anything.

Yarrow Lane is a general and cosmetic dental practice. Every appointment starts with a conversation, every plan is written down, and nothing is booked until you have said yes to it.

Opening pattern

Monday to Thursday, 8am until 6pm. Friday until 4pm. Alternate Saturday mornings are kept for check-ups, hygiene and reviews.

New patients

Your first appointment runs to forty minutes: a full examination, a look at your history, and a written plan you take away before anything is booked.

Same-day problems

Two slots are held back each weekday morning for pain, swelling, a lost filling or a broken tooth. Send the form and mark it urgent.

Treatment index

Six things we do, described plainly.

We are a general practice with a cosmetic side, not a clinic that treats everything. Anything outside this list we refer on, and we will tell you exactly who to and why.

01

Examinations and check-ups

A look at teeth, gums, bite and soft tissue, with small radiographs only where they change the decision. You leave knowing what is stable, what is being watched, and what needs work now.

Suits you ifYou are registering, returning after a gap, or due your routine interval.

02

Hygiene and gum care

Scaling, polishing and a practical brushing and cleaning routine built around what you will actually keep doing. Longer appointments are available where gum treatment needs more time.

Suits you ifYour gums bleed when you brush, or staining has built up between visits.

03

White fillings

Tooth-coloured composite shaded to the teeth either side, placed in layers and polished so the edge is hard to find. We also replace old amalgam where it has failed or cracked.

Suits you ifYou have decay, a chipped edge, or a filling that has worn or discoloured.

04

Crowns and bridges

Restoring a tooth that has broken down, or filling a gap. We take digital scans instead of putty impressions, and you wear a temporary while the laboratory work is made.

Suits you ifA tooth is cracked, heavily filled, root-treated, or missing.

05

Clear aligners

Removable aligners for crowding, spacing and relapse after childhood braces. We show you the projected result before you commit, and we say so when a case is better suited to an orthodontist.

Suits you ifYou want straighter front teeth without fixed metal brackets.

06

Teeth whitening

Custom trays made from your own scans, with gel you use at home over a couple of weeks. Existing crowns and fillings do not change shade, so we plan the order of treatment first.

Suits you ifYour teeth have darkened gradually and your gums are healthy.

Your first visit

Four steps, and none of them are a surprise.

If it has been a long time since your last appointment, this is the part worth reading. Nobody at Yarrow Lane will comment on the gap.

Step one

Sit and talk first

We go through your history, what you have noticed, and anything that has made dental visits difficult before. You stay upright and dressed in the chair for this part.

Step two

A full examination

Teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and soft tissue, with photographs or small radiographs where they add something. We describe what we find as we go.

Step three

A written plan

Options, what each involves, how long it lasts and what it costs, set out on paper. If doing nothing for now is reasonable, that option is written down too.

Step four

You decide the pace

Book everything, stage it over months, or go away and think. Treatment is only scheduled once you have agreed to the plan in front of you.

Nervous patients

You can stop us at any point by raising a hand.

Plenty of the people who register here tell us they have been putting the appointment off for years. We build the visit around that rather than treating it as an inconvenience.

  • Longer appointment slots so nothing has to be rushed to keep the day on time.
  • A first visit that can be a conversation only, with no examination at all.
  • A clear stop signal we agree before we start, and that we always honour.
  • Topical numbing gel before any injection, and time for it to work properly.
  • Early or end-of-day slots if a quiet waiting room makes the visit easier.

The clinical team

You will see the same dentist each time.

Continuity matters more than a long staff list. Three clinicians, each with their own patients, covering for each other only when they need to.

Gum treatment and maintenance, and the person who will give you a cleaning routine you can genuinely keep up.

What treatment costs

Four things that move the number, explained up front.

We quote per plan rather than publishing a menu, because the same treatment name can mean very different work. Here is what changes it.

  • How much tooth is left

A small filling and a rebuild of a tooth that has lost a wall are different procedures with the same everyday name. The examination tells us which one you need.

  • Whether a laboratory is involved

Crowns, bridges, aligners and whitening trays are made to order by a technician. That work is quoted separately and itemised on your plan.

  • How many visits it takes

Some treatment is one appointment, some is three spread across a month. Staging a plan over a longer period changes when you pay, not what it costs.

  • What has to come first

Gums are stabilised before cosmetic work, and decay is treated before whitening. The order is clinical, and we explain why it cannot be reversed.

You get a written estimate before any treatment is booked. If something changes once we start, we stop and talk to you about it rather than continuing and adding it to the bill.

Questions patients ask

The seven that come up most.

How often do I actually need a check-up?

Between six months and two years, depending on your gum health, decay history and habits. Your dentist sets an interval at the end of each examination and explains the reasoning, rather than defaulting everyone to six months.

Can I register if I have not seen a dentist in years?

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Book a new-patient appointment and say in the notes how long it has been. Nobody will comment on the gap, and the first visit is an assessment rather than treatment.

What happens if I am genuinely frightened of the chair?

Tell us on the form. We can book a talk-only first appointment where you stay upright and nothing goes near your mouth, agree a stop signal for later visits, and take treatment in shorter stages with longer slots.

Do you see children?

We see children from around three years old, usually alongside a parent who is already a patient. Early visits are short, friendly and often nothing more than counting teeth and a ride in the chair.

How long do clear aligners take?

Mild crowding is often a matter of months; more complex movement takes longer. You will see a projected outcome and a planned number of aligners before you decide, and a retainer afterwards is part of the plan, not an extra.

Will whitening damage my enamel or my existing fillings?

Used correctly with custom trays, whitening does not damage enamel, though some people get temporary sensitivity that settles within a few days. Crowns, veneers and white fillings do not change shade, so anything visible may need replacing afterwards to match.

What if I am running late or need to cancel?

Let reception know as early as you can. We can usually still see you for a shortened appointment if you are running late, and giving us notice of a cancellation means the slot can go to someone waiting in pain.

Send this, and reception will come back to you.
